About Us

 Afrikiko was founded in the year 1996 by four young Kenyan and German students with the primary objective of promoting beautiful handmade, innovative and fair-traded Kenyan deco products for the international market.

The following aspects were and are particularly important to us:

• Creation of long-term partnerships and fair business relations to our producers and customers
•  Promotion of the rural development in Kenya
• Initiation of social security systems (e.g. health insurance, savings accounts )

To build a foundation for creating beautiful decorative  products of highest quality standards we worked on the following:

• Product design: Afrikiko has made innovative enhancement of individual product groups thus coming up with refreshingly contemporary designs.

• Colors: We carried out intensive research to come up with dyes that are compatible with our product range and meet the REACH standards.

• Packaging: Afrikiko has designed packaging materials for our product range making it possible to offer custom packaging and labelling to our customers.

• Quality: A lot of effort has been put into ensuring a high and sustainable quality level for all our products.

In order to secure the quality standard, Afrikiko pays its producers on average up to 45% above the prevailing local market prices. Besides we grant interest-free loans to our artisans so that they can improve their workshops and their working environments.
